How to Track Your IMLC Letter of Qualification (LOQ)

Upload your LOQ to track expiration dates, view IMLC-eligible states, and manage compact licenses.

How to Track Your IMLC Letter of Qualification (LOQ)

If you hold or are applying for licenses through the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC), CredFolio can track your Letter of Qualification (LOQ), monitor its expiration, and show which compact states you're eligible to practice in.

What is a Letter of Qualification?

A Letter of Qualification (LOQ) is a document issued by your State of Principal License (SPL) board on behalf of the IMLC Commission. It certifies that you are eligible to obtain expedited medical licenses in other IMLC member states. The LOQ is valid for 365 days from the date of issuance.

Note: Not all IMLC member states can serve as your SPL. Of the 42 active members, 40 are SPL states that process LOQ applications. Hawaii and Vermont are non-SPL members β€” they issue compact licenses but cannot serve as your State of Principal License.

Important: All IMLC licenses depend on an active LOQ. If your LOQ expires, your ability to renew compact licenses may be affected.

How to upload your LOQ

  1. Go to the Documents page

  2. Click Upload and select your LOQ file (PDF or image)

  3. CredFolio's AI will automatically detect it as a Letter of Qualification

  4. Review the extracted details: SPL state, issue date, and expiration date

  5. Click Confirm to save

Tip: After confirming your LOQ, CredFolio will check if any of your existing state licenses were obtained through the IMLC and prompt you to tag them.

What happens after you upload your LOQ?

Once your LOQ is confirmed, several features activate:

  • LOQ Status Card appears at the top of your State Licenses tab showing your SPL state, issue date, and expiration status

  • State License Coverage Map shows an interactive US map with your licensed states and IMLC-eligible states highlighted

  • Smart License Review prompts you to confirm which existing licenses were obtained via IMLC

  • Expiration Reminders notify you as your LOQ approaches expiration, with escalating urgency

  • Primary State Validation checks that your profile's primary practice state matches your LOQ's SPL state

Understanding the State License Coverage Map

The map on your State Licenses tab uses color coding to show your license coverage:

Color

Meaning

Purple (solid)

States where you hold an IMLC license

Teal

States where you have a direct license in an IMLC member state

Light purple

IMLC member states where you could get expedited licensing

Dark gray

States where you have a direct license (not in the compact)

Light gray

States where you have no license and are not in the compact

LOQ expiration reminders

Your LOQ feeds into CredFolio's credential alert system. Depending on your subscription tier, you receive alerts at up to six intervals before expiry: 90, 60, 30, 14, 7, and 1 day β€” via in-app notifications, email, and SMS.

The LOQ-specific messaging emphasizes what's at stake: "All IMLC licenses depend on an active LOQ β€” contact your SPL board to renew."

Important: All IMLC licenses depend on an active LOQ. Contact your SPL board to begin the renewal process well before expiration.

What if I don't have an LOQ yet?

If your primary practice state is an IMLC member state, you'll see an informational card on your State Licenses tab explaining the compact and how to get started. You can learn more about IMLC eligibility at imlcc.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which states are in the IMLC?

Currently, 42 states and territories are active IMLC members (40 serving as SPL states, 2 as non-SPL members). You can see the full list on your State License Coverage Map or visit imlcc.com/participating-states.

Can I mark a license as IMLC without uploading an LOQ?

Yes. When confirming any state license document, you can check the "Obtained via IMLC" checkbox if the license state is an IMLC member. The LOQ upload enables additional features like the coverage map and expiration tracking.

What if my primary practice state doesn't match my LOQ?

CredFolio will show a warning during LOQ confirmation if your profile's primary practice state differs from the LOQ's SPL state. You can update your primary state to match, or keep your current setting if you have a valid reason (such as a recent move).

Does CredFolio verify my LOQ with the IMLC Commission?

Not currently. CredFolio extracts and tracks the information from your uploaded LOQ document. Verification through the IMLC Commission is planned for a future update.
